Drew A. Oliver BCom
Associate Portfolio Manager
When Drew Oliver tore his ACL at 17, he switched from competitive snowboarding to teaching. In the process, Drew discovered that teaching required a threefold approach, regardless of whether he was teaching an absolute beginner or a seasoned pro. He needed to build rapport; understand the student’s objectives; and come up with a game plan to get them there. Developing trust was the only way to help his students succeed.
Drew didn’t know it at the time, but those early lessons planted the seeds for what would become a successful career in wealth management. “I’ve always been interested in helping people achieve their goals,” says Drew. “Empowering clients and their families to realize their life ambitions while ensuring peace of mind when it comes to their finances is incredibly rewarding.”
His client-centric approach and passion for investing led Drew to BMO Nesbitt Burns, where he spent seven years sharpening his portfolio management and financial planning skills. Working with high-net-worth families and helping them create tailored wealth management plans deepened his goal to make a meaningful difference. That’s what attracted him to Newport Private Wealth, with its unique investment philosophy, proven track record and exceptional client focus. As an Associate Portfolio Manager, Drew will be working directly with Stephen Hafner, one of Newport’s senior Portfolio Managers, assisting with portfolio management and client account administration to help in developing comprehensive wealth management plans.
Drew attended the University of Ottawa and studied commerce and finance. He has completed several industry courses from the Canadian Securities Institute, including the CSC, CPH & WME. He is a CFA Level III candidate.
In his free time, Drew can be found with his daughter Aubrey. During the summer they’re golfing at the Georgian Bay Club or hitting the slopes of Georgian Peaks in the winter. He is an avid kiteboarder and a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan.
