Like many Newport employees, Aidan Peacock grew up playing every sport under the sun, with a special love for baseball. The lessons he learned through sports instilled the conviction that teamwork is critical to success.

Those beliefs translate to his approach to wealth management. “Too many people are intimidated by the investment world and shy away from it as a result,” says Aidan. “It’s better to ask for help, rather than go it alone. Michael Jordan didn’t win six rings on his own.”

Aidan started early in the investment industry, studying finance at the University of Calgary and interning at Mackenzie Investments and TC Energy. He landed his first full-time wealth management role at Grayhawk Investments before joining Newport as an Associate Portfolio Manager in 2023.

He credits this drive and interest in the field to his father, who was a commodities trader in Calgary for over 25 years and an ideal sounding board, both personally and professionally. While he loved his career choice from the start, it was through his father’s wise counsel he determined that he wanted more than the traditional advisor-client relationship that larger institutions offered.

The type of agnostic approach to investing that Newport focuses on was an important factor in his decision to join the firm. Rather than having to offer clients in-house products, Aidan says, “independent investment management was where I wanted to end up so I could focus 100% on the client’s perspective without any conflict of interest.”

Aidan leads a very active life and recently ran the 2023 Calgary marathon. Baseball continues to be a passion, and he still enjoys reliving the glory days via Wednesday night softball. With family in Vancouver and Arizona, Aidan travels often to reconnect with them as much as possible.
