Darren DeRosa CFA®, CFP®
Portfolio Manager
Darren’s interest in investing sparked early—he bought his first stock in high school and, after making a profit, figured he’d cracked the code. “I thought, ‘hey, this is the easiest thing ever!’” he laughs. Of course, he later realized it was beginner’s luck—but it was enough to ignite a lasting curiosity about how investing really works.
Raised in Trail, BC, Darren earned a history degree from the University of British Columbia before starting his career at National Bank. That role ignited his interest to keep learning about the investment space, taking the securities course, and obtaining his Canadian Investment Management (CIM) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) accreditations. “There’s always more to learn,” he says—one of the reasons he’s stayed so engaged in the field.
Over the past 20 years, Darren has worked in planning and investment management roles across several financial institutions before joining Newport in early 2025. He describes himself as a professional who has always taken a nuanced approach to investing. “That’s one reason Newport appealed to me. We look to offer real value and help clients reach their goals.”
What matters most to Darren is helping people make sense of their goals and plans. “A lot of my clients are very capable investors. But investing well takes more than knowledge—it takes emotional discipline, especially when life goals shift to include things like charitable giving or supporting family. That’s where I come in.”
Darren lives with his wife in Calgary and has two adult children. Outside of work, Darren likes to ski, hike and work on his golf game.
