Aubrey W. Baillie
Chairman Emeritus
Aubrey began his investment career with Harris and Partners in 1971, after earning an HBA from the Ivey Business School and becoming a Chartered Accountant. In 1977, he joined F H Deacon and Company (which was bought by Nesbitt Thomson and ultimately became part of BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc.). From 1977 to 1999, Aubrey held various senior positions at BMO Nesbitt Burns, including the office of President and Chief Operating Officer from 1990 to 1994.
Having spent more than 45 years in the investment industry, much of it as a top executive, Aubrey Baillie has seen the industry evolve — from boutique, independently-owned companies to today’s highly-regulated, primarily bank-owned industry. What has not changed over time is his enduring commitment and passion for ensuring clients’ interests come first.
When Newport Private Wealth was formed in 2001, Aubrey was very supportive of the founders’ unique vision of creating a firm from the client’s perspective, where interests are aligned and independent specialist money managers are used to ensure objectivity and expertise in various asset classes. Aubrey was Newport’s founding Chairman and continues to be involved with the firm as Chair of Newport’s Inclusion Action Committee.
Aubrey also sits on a number of business and philanthropic Boards. A passionate philanthropist, he believes strongly in “giving back” to the community and helping those who have not had the advantages that he has enjoyed throughout his lifetime.
